The university was established in 1949. The Government of Baroda and its people desired to have a separate University of their own before MSU came into existence. The main objective of establishing the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda was to provide a distinct type of a university-a teaching and residential education centre, which should have complete freedom in all academic matters and would be free to institute new branches of studies. This was done for their own university- MSU suited to the needs and aspirations of the region in particular and of the country as well. The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda is a leading residential public funded, English medium university located in the state of Gujarat in India. Situated in the heart of the City of Vadodara, the campus beholds beautiful heritage buildings and lush green gardens. The serene grand construction with an Indo-Sarcenic style dome makes it the second largest historic university in Asia.
