The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur, previously known as Regional Engineering College (REC) Durgapur, is an engineering college, fully funded by the government of India. The institution is located 160 km to the north-west of Kolkata, West Bengal. NIT Durgapur is one of the few colleges in India that offer high power and high voltage lab facilities for electric power engineering. Central instruments facilities are also available for students, who are helped by trained staff. The infrastructure at NIT Durgapur also includes a computer centre with all necessary kinds of hardware and software required for engineering studies. Each academic centre at NIT Durgapur has its own computer lab. There are two state-of-the-art CAD labs as well, for technology training.
