The vision of the late Prime Minister P.V. Narsimha Rao was to make this institute - the name of which was coined after famous poet Kavikulguru Kalidas - into a distinguished great centre of professional and technical education. Kavikulguru Institute of Technology and Science (KITS), as it is known today, has a large number of departments. Under the engineering umbrella, the college has just taken a huge leap, with three new M.Tech programs on the anvil. These are M.Tech (structures), M.Tech (heat power), and M.Tech (Electronics). More than 60,000 valuable journals, along with hundreds of books and reference manuals, are available in the magnanimous institute library. Facilities such as Bar Code Scheme, Internet connectivity on campus, Xerox/Scan, laser printing, and retrieval of CD Roms are also available. In total, there are four hostels, two each for boys and girls. The boys’ hostels are named as Triveni and Jamuna, while the girls’ hostels are named as Old Kaveri and New Kaveri.
